Vote for Mayreen
I bring to the CUSD School Board a broad perspective that includes detailed knowledge of the District, an understanding of the budgeting process, an ability to be objective and fair and an appreciation of the diverse needs of the CUSD and the community.
As a parent of three children who were all educated in Castaic Union School District, I am passionate about education. My desire to give back to my community and my dedication to quality education led to my decision to join the school board. My husband and I have enjoyed raising our children in Castaic and we appreciate this supportive and family-friendly community. I have been involved in the community by volunteering in the schools, Castaic AYSO youth soccer, Cub Scouts and my church youth programs.
I have been a member of the Board of Trustees for the CUSD since 2017. As a board member, I visit school sites and district preschools regularly, attend school and district events, attend monthly board meetings, advocate for fair and full school funding to our state legislators in Sacramento, and attend the CSBA Annual Education Conference. I have completed the California School Board Association’s Masters in Governance training. While on the school board I have supported projects in our District that include the new locker room at CMS and the recent remodel of Live Oak Elementary. I was an outspoken supporter of reopening classrooms as soon as we were allowed to by the State and County.
My goals for the district are to continue to focus on student achievement and provide support to students as we recover from the effects of the pandemic. I am currently running for a four-year term to continue my service on the Castaic Union School District Board of Trustees. If re-elected, I will continue to make a positive difference in the Castaic school district. As a trained and experienced board member, I will continue to dedicate time to visiting schools, attending district events, and focusing on student achievement so we can continue to improve the educational experience for all students. I ask for your vote so I can continue the work I’ve begun in advocating for our district and helping our school district continue to evolve and grow as we strive for further academic excellence and prepare our students for the future.

Our View | Continuing a Record of Leadership for SCV Schools
October 22, 2022
"The past couple of years have proven challenging for everyone, and especially for those in the education community. Our educational leaders have had to make a series of difficult decisions, trying to balance the quality of education versus the health, safety and welfare of children, teens, parents, teachers and staff.
In all, we can’t complain about how our local school boards have dealt with all of these challenges. On the whole, we have elected school board members — in the various local school districts — who have met all of these challenges head-on. Regardless of whether we might agree with a specific decision at a particular time, we’ve always maintained confidence that our school board members — who are elected as non-partisan officeholders — have acted in what they believe is in the best, balanced interest of all stakeholders, and most importantly the students they serve.
With that said, here are our endorsements for the local school board positions available on the Nov. 8 general election ballot...Castaic Union School District Trustee Area E: Mayreen Burk "
